Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski heavily criticized Felix Zwayer after tonight’s devastating Champions League defeat to Liverpool.
Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, Zielinski slammed the German referee over a dubious penalty call.
Arne Slot’s side inflicted a late heartbreak on the Nerazzurri, condemning them to their second consecutive European loss.
Indeed, Dominik Szoboszlai converted a late penalty after Florian Wirtz went to ground in the box following Alessandro Bastoni’s soft tackle.
However, all the blame goes to Felix Zwayer and his VAR colleagues.
Despite initially waving ‘play on,’ Zwayer had a change of heart after reviewing the incident on the side-pitch monitor.
As a result, Inter relinquished their three-game winning run in a match they didn’t deserve to lose.
Furthermore, Inter’s quest to secure a second consecutive top-eight finish is now significantly compromised.
Zielinski, who replaced Hakan Calhanoglu in the 11th minute, lost his temper after the final whistle.
Piotr Zielinski Blasts Felix Zwayer After Inter Milan 0-1 Liverpool Defeat

“We are disappointed and angry because we played a good game,” Zielinski said. “But we lacked a bit of finishing to put the ball in the net.
“As for the referee’s decisions, I don’t understand them.
“From the field, it didn’t look like a foul. If they call these fouls, then every situation would be a penalty.”
Meanwhile, speaking to InterTV via FCInterNews, Zielinski reiterated his disappointment with Zwayer’s officiating.
“We are disappointed and frustrated,” Zielinski was adamant. “For me, that was never a penalty, but unfortunately, that’s how it went.
“Playing every three days is obviously never easy; every match is high-level, sometimes with travel involved.
“These kinds of games can happen to any team, so you have to recover properly, have energy, and keep moving forward.
“Any advice for the team? No advice, the team knows what it has to do.
“We have a tough away game against Genoa on a very challenging pitch.
“We need to get back to winning, and then we’ll focus on the Champions League from January with the last two matches.”
it’s a penalty on my view…but all we have to blame is bastoni… there’s no way I can commit this kind of silly foul at this vital time…. anyways I am not sure we can qualify from the group stage
Didn’t anyone else notice that zinger had a clear penalty and neither the bar nor the ref saw it. Especially the Var
That was a soft call and it was probably given cause the ball was in front of Liverpool player and no other player was nearby contesting for it. I have seen this given before as the Ref thinks that the fouled player will be the first to reach for it.
Also, very silly from Bastoni to do it in the era of VAR and expect to go unpunished from it.
if that’s a penalty, then on every corner kick, there should be penalties given.just ridiculous.uefa needs to explain this.
Agree, that is really a bad call.
It was not a corner kick. It was Bastoni pulling the other guy’s shirt in open play. It was a silly mistake that threw away one valuable point.
