Cristian Chivu faces a key call ahead of Inter Milan’s clash against Bologna, with Yann Sommer and Josep Martinez battling for the starting berth.

According to Corriere della Sera via FCInterNews, Cristian Chivu has yet to decide whether to hand the Spaniard a rare start.

Josep Martinez has barely featured for Inter this season.

Indeed, he made back-to-back Serie A starts in September before falling behind Sommer in the pecking order.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old was involved in a fatal car accident in October, which resulted in a loss of life.

Martinez made one appearance after that tragic event, taking Sommer’s place in Inter’s Coppa Italia rout of Venezia earlier this month.

However, Yann Sommer remains Chivu’s starting goalkeeper in Serie A.

Given the importance of tomorrow’s fixture, the Nerazzurri boss faces a huge decision.

Benching Sommer in this high-profile contest is not a small call by any stretch of the imagination.

Therefore, Martinez may start on the bench after all.
