Italian media delivered a tough verdict on Ange-Yoan Bonny after Inter’s Supercoppa Italiana exit against Bologna, with the young forward singled out following a difficult night in Riyadh.
La Gazzetta dello Sport was particularly severe in its assessment, focusing on Bonny’s overall contribution and the decisive moment from the penalty spot.
“Lots of duels, lots of intensity, lots of physicality,” the paper wrote, via L’Interista.
“But he offers little quality, in his first start alongside Thuram. Including the penalty, which was almost embarrassing.”
The judgment reflected frustration not just with the miss itself, but with a performance that never truly found rhythm.
Bologna ‘Had Bonny All Figured Out’ In Supercoppa Victory Over Inter Milan

Corriere dello Sport struck a similar tone, underlining how the matchup unfolded very differently compared to the past.
“When he played under Chivu at Parma, he made Bologna’s defenders suffer,” the Roman daily noted.
“Last night, they had him completely figured out.”
The implication was clear: Bologna neutralised Bonny effectively, limiting his influence throughout the match.
The ratings across Italian outlets confirmed the criticism.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: 4.5
Tuttosport: 5
TMW: 5
L’Interista: 6
While the evaluations varied slightly, the overall picture was consistent.
Bonny’s effort and physical presence were acknowledged, but the lack of incision, capped by a costly penalty, weighed heavily on the assessment.
For the France youth international, the Supercoppa exit represents a setback rather than a verdict.
However, Italian media were clear: on a night that demanded composure and quality, Bonny fell short, and the margins were brutally exposed.
Bonny’s penalty was abysmal, but overall this season he has been very good, is still young, and is still learning…. As far as the penalty shoot out is concerned, I would be pointing fingers at Bastoni and Barella!! Two of our supposed senior players and ‘leaders’, who showed a complete lack of bottle and composure when their team needed them….
He is the best stricker inter has u bum! The only player in the WHOLE SQUADE who can actually dribble and pass players on his own, u nucklehead! Get back to ur baseball u bum
ur tweaking. he only scores against relegation teams. in big games he does nothing.
he is not yet a proven striker and still lacks the experience to consistently deliver in the highest-stakes matches.
Maybe he thinks he is Neymar…
Bony penalty was disrespectful to the club and fans. He’s a new young player and he should know that you don’t try a controversial penalty when a lot is on the line. His performance was better than Thuram but sometimes everything gets negated when a player does something stupid like a silly red card and for Bony this is the case
It looked like my penalties when I was 10 years old. I could not shoot at all – and nobody expected me to. Why he shoots like an average 10 year old defender is beyond me.
