Inter Milan center-back Manuel Akanji fared well in last night’s 1-0 home triumph over Serie A minnows Lecce.

According to the Italian media via L’Interista, the Swiss defender returned to form after an underwhelming performance against Napoli.

Manuel Akanji has become one of Inter’s defensive cornerstones since joining the club from Manchester City on deadline day.

Indeed, he has quickly overtaken Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi, and Yann Bisseck in the pecking order.

However, the 30-year-old’s display against Napoli last Sunday fell short of his high standard.

After Rasmus Hojlund gave him a nightmare over the weekend, Akanji returned to his usual best last night.

Despite moving to the right side of Inter’s back three, the former Borussia Dortmund star didn’t cease to amaze.

Yet, there was a feeling that he felt more comfortable playing at the heart of Cristian Chivu’s back three.

Acerbi took that place yesterday, forcing Akanji to operate on the right flank of the defense, a role he has often occupied since arriving at San Siro.
