Serie A referee Fabio Maresca failed to impress in last night’s intense showdown between pacesetters Inter Milan and bottom-half Lecce.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 44-year-old’s performance was far from flawless.
Though it was supposed to be another day in the office for Inter, Lecce nearly pulled off a huge upset at San Siro.
Indeed, Eusebio Di Francesco’s side slumped to a late 1-0 defeat, as Francesco Pio Esposito bagged a 78th-minute winner off the bench.
Fabio Maresca ‘Imperfect’ in Inter Milan 1-0 Lecce Win

Marcus Thuram tried to draw a penalty early in the first half.
However, Maresca never bought his theatrics, showing the Frenchman a harsh yellow card for simulation.
Though the contact was soft, there was a feeling that Maresca shouldn’t book the 28-year-old striker.
Then, he awarded Inter a penalty over Danilo Veiga’s reckless challenge on Ange-Yoan Bonny, only to overturn his decision after reviewing the incident.
As such, Maresca’s inconsistent calls left both teams and fans frustrated, highlighting an uneven performance in a tightly contested match.
