Runaway Serie A leaders Inter Milan are reportedly looking to tie high-performing manager Cristian Chivu down to a new contract.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the San Siro giants are ready to double the 45-year-old’s salary.
Cristian Chivu returned to Giuseppe Meazza in a coaching capacity last summer to replace Simone Inzaghi, who took charge of Al-Hilal.
Despite lacking experience in top-flight management, Chivu has done remarkable job in his first season at the club.
Indeed, the Romanian tactician is close to becoming only the fourth manager in Serie A history to win the Scudetto before turning 50.
Inter Milan Looking to Double Cristian Chivu Salary
With only six games left to play, Chivu’s charges boast a handsome nine-point lead over second-placed Napoli.
Therefore, it’s fair to say that the 21st Scudetto is virtually a foregone conclusion.
Meanwhile, Chivu’s contract at San Siro runs until 2027, while he currently earns around €2.5 million net per season.
However, Inter are looking to reward their manager with a bumper new deal.
Indeed, the Nerazzurri are ready to increase Chivu’s annual wages to around €5 million.
Furthermore, it would put the former Parma coach on a par with Massimiliano Allegri and Gian Piero Gasperini.
And an important highlight from the new contract: he will be given more say in the transfers.
Here is a little info from the gazetta
“This time around, however, the club and coach plan to be in complete harmony in their decision making and are aiming to provide Chivu with players with profiles that suit his style of play. They are said to be targeting more physically imposing players, particularly in defence and midfield.”
