Today Luciano Spalletti will try Jeison Murillo in a new role as a right wing defender in a 4-man defence. “These tests that will be repeated during the initial friendly games could be important for the future since Spalletti needs defenders that can alternate positions because there is always good to be able to change defence during games from 3 to 4 defenders.”
This according to TuttoSport.

Interesting idea, and i’m curious as to how this pans out. Follow my logic guys.
Broadly speaking there are 2 ways to alternate between a 3 man defence and 4 man defence in-game. To use some modern examples…
1) Spurs – defensive phase of Rose – Vertonghen – Alderweireld – Walker switches to Vertonghen – Dier – Alderweireld, with Dier dropping back from defensive midfield and the 2 full backs pushing up into wing back positions. The transition is inherently well-balanced and requires vertical positional changes from 3 of 11 players.
2a) Bayern (2015-16) – defensive phase of Alaba – Boating – Martinez – Lahm switches to Alaba – Boating – Martinez and Lahm moved into midfield as a CDM role (generally). The transition is faster than Spurs’ style as it relies on only 1 of 11 players making a vertical position change into midfield. It’s also harder to play against as Lahm could occupy a CDM position or roam wide on the right due tactical intelligence. At Barca (2010-11) Abidal – Pique – Mascherano – Alves had a slightly different take on this. Alves would make the vertical positional change but, with more pace and less of a need to crowd the midfield, he could play wide right in a very attacking role. We’;; probably never see a team do this again though (various reasons unrelated) so it’s hardly worth talking about
Point is if Murillo is going to play right back we’re drifting towards Style 2 rather than Style 1. I imagine Murillo can do a decent job in this role with time. But what the hell is going to happen over on the LEFT side of defence. Ansaldi, Nagatomo are literally incapable of making the necessarily vertical position changes to make the formation work. We need a new left back (OK that was already a given). We need a very special type of left back. We’re linked with Dalbert—does he have the stamina and tactical flexibility? Darmian has been mentioned but he’s primarily a right back so how does that factor in? We’re unlikely to convince a player like Mendy or Guerrero to move to Inter. Without a plan for the left + the right side of defence this is gonna to be a real short experiment
Let’s spalletti do his job, and we can analyses it later.
without picture, its a little bit difficult to understand your points
Could it really be?

With Andreolli , Medal and Rannocchia going we need to keep him for 1 more season or it’s basically a whole new group with Miranda.
I thought he was supposed to be sold, he is clearly not good enough.

Nonsense Tuttoshit. This is likely how they’ll line up today:
3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1
1 Handanovic
24 Murillo 25 Miranda 13 Ranocchia
11 Biabiany 59 Emmers 7 Kondogbia 58 Sala
92 Baldini 99 Pinamonti 63 Rivas
nope lol
This is actually the least nonsense I’ve heard from tutto in a while. Spalletti likes to switch between 3 and 4 man defense in games where warranted, and in fact can use fluid formation alternating between 3 and 4 man depending on offensive of defensive phase. And Murillo a defensive RB makes sense given his athleticism, even if his skills don’t suit as an offensive fullback he could add solidity to that flank when needed. I’m curious to see how it works out, if true.
Keep him. He can also do well in 3-man backline. His offensive treats would probably be no worse than any other fullback we have (cause the all suck).
Anything that keeps Fagatomo further than the starting line up works for me.
Yes…looks like it’s worth the try..this guy is too acrobatic to be a plain old cb to me
Guys, breaking news: Medel will undergo medical for Tigres tomorow. 7mil euro transfer, 3 year contract with 3,5mil per year for PitBull.
Good for both sides.
i knew that since one week ago
Cool, maybe you should have shared it with other fans as well.
Yea true
So Spaletti want to turn Murillo like Rudiger at Roma/Germany NT. Hope Murillo can take this chance and impress Spaletti
This guy deserves a chance, hope he can use it!
Honestly he can play as cb and rb too
But he wouldnt be giving crosses though
Like we have been getting quality crosses since Maicon has left :/
If Mr. Crosses (Candreva) is in a team then no need to worry about Murillo crossing
I think that’s a valid concern. We know how Juan Jesus at LB turned out. Murillo at RB has the same smell.
The difference is murillo actually knows how to attack and shoot. I think murillo is an excellent candidate for rb/rcb setup like rudiger style: he has strength, stamina, tackling and shooting abilities. Who knows maybe he can practice crossing? I mean as far as technique goes murillo is pretty solid.
Speltti is also fazio-Ing ranocchia and im actually quite happy and positive about it. Rano always had talent (more than fazio) and I can see him excellent in a spaletti setup: especially since rano can spray long passes well. I’m optimistic
he has zero tactical discipline, thats pretty bad enough for a CB, it would be a suicide to have him ‘zone out’ on the flank
