Inter left the San Siro after a third consecutive loss in all competitions, this time against city rivals AC Milan in the quarterfinal of the Coppa Italia. A bitter Luciano Spalletti commented on the match to RAI Sport.
Inter is off at the moment, are you afraid of that the personality of this squad is not enough?
“We have lost a bit of confidence, we are not as convinced as before when we do some of the things we used to do with quality. Then, when occasions arise and you do not benefit from them it is hard. We have to focus on the things that do not work at the moment, from a psychological point of view we have to be strong and understand what went wrong and how these mistakes can be fixed.”
Are you concerned about the status of the player’s minds and their physical status?
“Both factors are involved, but when the players do not respond they have to be held accountable. From a phsyical point of view they are fine, they have all the qualities they need. But if you think that someone else will resolve your problems everything becomes even more difficult.”
Are you afraid of a reaction in the Serie A?
“I think that this team can win against every opponent, but the team has to become aware of its potential and understand how to use it in every situation. Because at certain moments we can not be as complete as we should and then we have to rely on the individual performance. When that does not happen it becomes even more difficult at a team level.”
Are Perisic and Icardi also involved in the discussion regarding the personality problems?
“It seems like they want to convince you that this is how it works, that you can be underperforming, which can happen at some times. But then you have the psychological factor, the character factor and the factor of force. If all these components are a little bit lower than normally it becomes more difficult. Tonight we could see that the team has lowered its conviction of what their strenghts are, at the beginning of the season there was no doubt of how strong this team was.”
You just did resolve your problem….you got kicked out of Coppa Italia because you realize that this aging team can’t play more than once a week ! Now you are going to learn that there is no coach that can prevent inter’s annual January collapse !!!!
The season’s not over , lets be honest here and not get are hopes up (although we had the total right to) our main goal remains a ucl qualification , we got off to a good start but just lost it in December as always with some reinforcements this winter i still think its possible at least a 4th place then we could sort out this FFP horseshit were in to and get some big guns we deserve , a change of formation would do good too i think icardi alone in the box isnt helping we need more upfront wish he tries eder as a second attacker
Eder is useless which is the problem as he barely adds anything upfront when he comes on besides running around like a headless chicken.
We need to invest in a number 10 that can play both as support striker and more importantly as a trequartista.
Pastore would be the ideal solution but in case that doesn’t work out perhaps we could try a cheeky loan move for Jovetic who hasn’t really gotten much playing time at Monaco.
Also think we need to realize that Eder is not good enough and Ausilio needs to admit that he erred by giving him a new contract and see if we can ship him off to Jiangsu in a straight swap for Ramires or Teixeira.
Pinamonti probably a better option off the bench in any case as he is a better fit for the number 9 role in Spaletti’s tactics. If nothing else giving him minutes now will go a long way to prepping him to become our vice Icardi.
While cleaning house need to sell one or both of Joao Mario and Brozovic to raise funds to make a move for Pastore who should be our number one objective for the January market.
As it happens each time, we get into form, beat our opponenets, then suddenly we are off, hope spalettti with the management can fix that next game or Inter will not be coming this year
Physical should not be the case, we only play local competition.
Mental yes, need to be recover immediately!
Technical, with the coming injury, the question would be focusing our squad depth. Almost in all lines need addition. Defense on central with Miranda is off. Wing back, need to be fixed with the failure of last mercato (yeah, im pointing out at our newcomers FBs), the no.10 <– not sure Vecino-Gagli-Valero could fill in the gap that role has not been filled. Fwd Winger, if both Candre and Perisic off-game, we're done. sad story. Upfront, Eder somehow unable to live up the expectation as vice-Icardi. And dont even mention our youngster.
While no big purchase could be done at winter transfer, our season would look miserable, IF Spaletti unable to turn team's mentality up.
The main problem is Argentinian bastard. He is not worth the jock strap of our glorious forwards of the past
I agree. He didn’t score a single goal this season. He’s not even top scorer of the league. Mauro Bastardi
Your Problems are few ,even more, Mr!!!
Good luck!!!
Fuck!!!
