Plans may be changing for Inter’s young centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, who renewed his contract with Inter last night.

The original plan was for Bastoni to be loaned out to fellow Serie A side SPAL as per the agreement between the two clubs, but Sky Sport have reported that Inter are now thinking about keeping him for this season, the reason being Luciano Spalletti’s desire to play a three-man defence.

If this were to happen Inter’s depth at the centre-back position would be thin, with Andrea Ranocchia being the only other alternative to the starting trio of Milan Skriniar, Miranda and Stefan De Vrij.

If this scenario were to happen then Bastoni would become Spalletti’s first choice as a backup ahead of Ranocchia. A final decision will be made after the player returns from his duties with the under-19 Italian National team.

Bastoni spent last season on loan at Atalanta, appearing in 4 matches after being bought by Inter.
