Real Madrid look set to rival Inter for the signature of Porto midfielder Hector Herrera according to a report from Spanish newspaper AS.

As per the report, Los Blancos manager Julen Lopetegui has met with the Mexican international in a hotel in Porto to gauge the player’s interest in a move next summer. The pair have of course already worked together and could be set to work together again.

Herrera has under a year on his contract and will thus be able to be approached on a pre-contract basis come January. Competition from others aside, clubs will not struggle to convince Herrera to give up life in Portugal with it understood that he wishes to try himself in one of the top leagues in Europe.

The report goes on to state that Inter had attempted to land him during the summer transfer window but were knocked back by Porto’s president who demanded €40 million to part ways with the 28-year-old.
