Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports on the incidents in connection with the Serie A match between Inter and Napoli in December where a person was killed following clashes between rivaling fan groups.
“The position of Marco Piovella, the head of the Inter Ultra’s, who has been in prison since December 31st for clashes with Napoli fans, where Daniele Belardinelli died, has been clarified.
According to the judges of the Court of Milano, “there is no qualifying evidence” according to which Piovella, nicknamed the Red, “had a role of organization and/or material direction in the violent clashes which occurred in via Novara.”
For Piovella, the court speaks only of “an obvious contribution of a moral nature” to the clashes, linked to his role as leader of the Curva Nord. The judges, who have established a year and six months of surveillance for Piovella, have also decided that the architect and head of Ultrà Inter must be at least three kilometers from the places of sports events: The court rejected the request of the prosecutors, who wanted him prohibited from the region of Lombardy.
