In an interview with mediagol.it, Emiliano Viviano has opened up on the training stint which he had with Inter earlier on this year.

Viviano was called in by Inter for a trial when number one goalkeeper and current club captain Samir Handanovic sustained a hairline fracture to the small finger in his left hand and Viviano even underwent a medical but in the end the club opted not to sign him and rely upon Daniele Padelli whilst Handanovic was out.

“I had a medical so they could see my physical condition but the Nerazzurri management realised that Handanovic would recover faster than originally expected and they did not want to upset the existing hierarchies at the club,” he began.

“It was only normal that before they made any decision I should have taken a medical and trained pending the results of the tests they were doing on Samir.

“It was nothing out of the ordinary and I was perfectly aware of the situation. I would have been happy if I had joined.”

The veteran shot-stopper remains a free agent following his release from Portuguese giants Sporting near the end of last year.

Throughout his x year playing career, the 34-year-old has represented a total of eight clubs all of which have been in Italy with the exception of Sporting and Premier League side Arsenal.

He has made 409 career appearances across all competitions in which he has conceded 523 goals and kept a total of 125 clean sheets.
