It’s the first days at Inter for Hugo Campagnaro and during these he has been reunited with Walter Mazzarri and his favorite number, number 14, which he had both in Sampdoria and Napoli. In an interview with SportItalia, Inter’s new defender revealed how the change with Fredy Guarin really happened: “In fact, it was his choice to give up number 14. He liked 13 a lot and came to me and asked if I wanted his number.”

He also talked about Mazzarri’s training methods and the three-man defense, “We are working hard on the pitch and that’s nothing new for me. We did well last season, we’re on a training camp to learn everything. On the morning we train strength and directly after that tactics. During these two days, we have been practicing defense, the coach explains all the details and makes us see the moves of the attackers so we can stop them. The three-man defense has paid off for a long time, so it’s right to continue with it. This is the seventh training camp I do with the coach, I know it by heart. This is a fundamental step for the championship, we’re all a little tired, but there will be easier times.”

When it comes to the fans’ reception, Campagnaro says that “it’s normal for me because I come from a team that has very passionate fans. But to see the stands filled every day during training camp has never happened to me. It makes you want to start the championship and give everything. We expect to improve the results from last season, an unusual season for Inter, while we come from four fantastic years with Napoli. Especially the last one with second place and had it not been for Juve outmatching everyone, we could have come first.”

There is no doubt about which teammate who has surprised him most during the first few days in Pinzolo, “Not only me, but everyone, Mateo Kovacic. He was already good last season, but seeing him up close is different from seeing him on TV. When you see him here on the pitch, he’s even more impressive.”
