Inter’s Italian international midfielder Nicolo Barella has suffered an injury to his ankle during training and could miss the important Champions League clash tomorrow against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district.

This according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Matteo Barzaghi who tweeted this via his official Twitter account moments ago.

According to the report, Inter have not given up on the idea of being able to start Barella tomorrow but that should he be unable to play, Christian Eriksen is currently favored to replace him ahead of Stefano Sensi.

Inter are in a tight position with regards to fit personnel in midfield after Chilean international midfielder Arturo Vidal is also reportedly in doubt to start due to an injury, in the Champions League decider which could see the Nerazzurri qualify to the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time since 2012.

Barzaghi tweet read: “I can confirm that Barella has a problem with his ankle. He will be evaluated tomorrow. Inter hope to recover him but should they not be able to Eriksen is favored to start over Sensi.”
