Romelu Lukaku could still bang in hundreds more goals for Inter before his career with the Nerazzurri ends, according to Christian Vieri.
The Belgian has so far scored 59 times in 85 appearances in all competitions, having joined in a club-record deal from Manchester United in the summer of 2019.
Vieri is expecting Lukaku to be a dominant force for Belgium at this summer’s European Championships, and he foresees a long and happy career with Inter too – as long as Antonio Conte remains head coach.
“If Conte stays at Inter for five years, Lukaku will score 40 goals per season for five years,” Vieri argued on his Twitch TV channel, Bobo TV.
“If he went back to the Premier League he’d get bogged down and struggle.
“Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are perfect, a devastating partnership.
“Lukaku will score one or two goals per game for Belgium at the Euros, you can’t stop him when he’s in a good condition.
“If he’s physically in shape he has a soft touch, he’s soft and he’s quick; if he puts on four or five kg then he becomes laboured and has trouble.”
Antonio Cassano appeared on the live stream with Vieri and offered a similar ringing endorsement of Lukaku’s current form.
“Everything comes easily for Lukaku when he’s in shape like he is now,” FantAntonio added.
“He’s unplayable like this, a real tank, he uses his left and right feet well and moves well.
“At the moment Lukaku has confidence, when he’s fit he can take care of Inter’s attack by himself.
“When he’s not in shape he can struggle, because he doesn’t have the clean technique of a Robert Lewandowski or Karim Benzema.
“In Italy he is devastating.”
Lukaku has scored 25 goals for Inter this season, with his last club goal coming during a 3-0 win over Genoa last month.
Inter are considering offering the 27-year-old a new contract in the coming months, according to a report in the UK, in a bid to deter interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona among others.
