The door to Inter is closed for Wellington. São Paulo’s midfielder appeared to be on his way to reinforce Inter’s midfield, but now it’s not likely that he will leave Brazil. It seemed as if Inter could convince São Paulo to let the player go on loan for a sum that was not too high and then have an option to purchase. The player had also expressed a strong desire to move to Italy. Inter’s pending and other factors have meant that the negotiations ended and even if they could be reopened in the future, the player’s agent Gustavo Arribas is pessimistic.

The second reason why the situation has changed is that São Paulo now want to keep Wellington until at least December because another of the team’s midfielders, Denilson, is injured. The club therefore see Wellington, who was mentally set on a move to Serie A, as a replacement. This combined with the fact that Inter have started to look around for other options, causes the player to become irritated.

That Wellington isn’t satisfied with the situation is confirmed by the player himself when he, in an interview in the Brazilian media, commented on this: “I won’t move to another club. Inter? I don’t want to talk about it anymore.” The midfielder was ready to leave São Paulo, where he hadn’t received any playing time from coach Paulo Autuori, but the situation has changed and perhaps the opportunity might appear again this winter, provided that Inter need him then.
