Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini is expected a tough encounter against Cagliari in Serie A this afternoon, as the struggling Sardinians travel to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
The Isolani find themselves five points from safety in the relegation zone ahead of kick-off, but Gagliardini was adamant that today’s opponents were much better than their position in the table suggested.
“It is absolutely a difficult match. We are facing a team with fewer points than their squad deserves,” the former Atalanta midfielder claimed in an interview with Inter TV ahead of the match, and as reported by FCInterNews.it.
“They are certainly in a difficult situation and it is up to us to dictate the tempo of the game, in the manner we want, so as to bring three important points home.
“It will be a game with many duels. Cagliari adopt a structure, but the individual clashes will be decisive.”
Gagliardini is named amongst the substitutes in Antonio Conte’s team despite the suspension of Nicolo Barella, but has fond memories of facing Cagliari after netting his first Inter goal against them.
“It’s true, I hope it can be a good omen,” the 27-year-old added.
Inter are looking to extend their winning run in Serie A to 11 matches when they face the Sardinians, as well as restore their 11 point advantage at the top of the table over AC Milan.
