In an interview with Premium Calcio, Walter Mazzarri attempts to analyse the 0-3 defeat against Roma: “Even when we win, I always look at how we performed. Today we didn’t deserve to lose by three goals, but that’s football. The upside is that we have played three games against top teams and only lost one. We also had six consecutive positive results before this one. The penalty? Most things didn’t go our way today… Roma scored with their first shot attempt, but even at 2-0 we didn’t lose hope. In spite of all the chances we had, we didn’t manage to score a goal. Roma deserves praise for continuing to play with the same energy, even when leading by three goals. Everyone who watched the game tonight knows how we lost. We are still on the right track, we need to keep on working. We made mistakes that the Roma players didn’t make. The difference today was experience. Some of our players still need to mature a little. If you watch the counter-attack that led to the third goal, one of our players is running next to the opponent who has the ball. If he had stopped the player instead, that would have been enough to prevent the goal from being scored. Unfortunately there is an international break, I wanted to gather the players this Tuesday to let them watch the mistakes they made”.
