The municipality of Milan has announced its decision to appeal against the restriction imposed on the new San Siro project.
In 2019, Inter Milan and AC Milan started working on a shared project to build a modern stadium in the San Siro’s stead.
However, the city’s superintendence imposed a restriction that prevented the demolition of the current venue due to its historical and cultural significance.
The regional commission for the cultural heritage in Lombardy confirmed the decision. This served as a deadly blow to the two clubs’ plan
Since then, Inter and Milan have been working on alternative projects. The Nerazzurri are planning to build their new stadium in Rozzano while the Rossoneri picked the San Donato region as their new home.
The Milan Municipality Is Still Trying To Revive The New San Siro Project
Nevertheless, the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala is still hoping to resurrect the San Siro project and prevent the two clubs from leaving the city’s walls.
So according to FcInter1908, the Milan municipality has decided to appeal against the restriction decision to the TAR (regional administrative court).
As the source explains, the municipality has today voted on a resolution to file an appeal that aims to annul the restriction order.
The council argues that the definitive evaluation of the stadium’s cultural significance is only possible under the law after 70 years of its establishment. In San Siro’s case, this would ensue in 2025.
