Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco expects that every part of the pitch will be competitive against Atalanta in this evening’s Serie A clash
The 25-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DZAN ahead of the match, via FCInterNews. He gave a tactical preview of the kind of match that it could turn out to be.
Inter and Atalanta play with fairly similar formations, at least on paper.
Both the Nerazzurri and La Dea play with three central defenders. Then there are wingbacks, and two forwards.
Each team plays with a trio of central midfielders as well.
But that does not necessarily mean that there will be an exact symmetry in terms of positions, roles, or how the two sets of players operate on the pitch.
One thing that Atalanta have become known for under Gasperini is a tight man-marking system.
This means that the Bergamo-based team tend to try and control the match by denying the opposition time and space on the ball no matter where they are.
As such, there are not necessarily any “safe” areas of the pitch in matches against La Dea.
Inter have certainly found this out the hard way in the past.
Dimarco: Inter Will Have To Play All Over The Pitch Vs Atalanta
For both Inter and Atalanta, the wingbacks are crucial outlets.
The flanks could certainly be the site of a key battle in this evening’s match. Asked if he expects that that will be the case, however, Inter wingback Dimarco stressed that it will not just be out wide.
“I think it will be a match where we have to play in all parts of the pitch,” he predicted.
“We know that they keep up one-vs-one marking everywhere,” the wingback continued.
He added that “We all know how good Scamacca is.”
“He’s a young and top-class player. But all of their forwards are very good.”
“We’ll have to be very careful against them,” Dimarco added.
