Inter Milan have set a new record in terms of fans in attendance at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia clash against Bologna.

According to FcInterNews, 63,519 were at the San Siro for the Nerazzurri’s Cup encounter with Bologna.

As the source tells it, this is a new record for a fixture in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

Last season’s match between As Roma and Genoa held the record, with just over 60 thousand fans present at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Nevertheless, the Beneamata supporters flocked into the Meazza to smash the previous record and set a new one.

But despite the warm support of the Nerazzurri faithful, Simone Inzaghi’s men failed to return the favor with a victory.

Inter Milan Register New Attendance Record In Coppa Italia Defeat Vs Bologna

Inter dominated the action but couldn’t break the deadlock in normal time, not even when the referee awarded them a spot kick. Lautaro Martinez stepped up but saw his effort denied by Federico Ravaglia who guessed the right side.

Two minutes into extra time, Inter’s two left wingbacks combined for the opener. Federico Dimarco sent an inswinger from the corner kick and Carlos Augusto nodded the ball home.

However, Bologna managed to turn the encounter upside-down in the final eight minutes. Defender Sam Beukema scored the equalizer while Dan Ndoye stunned the Nerazzurri with a deadly winner in the 116th minute.

Inter won the last two editions of the Coppa Italia, but their title defense has now ended after 120 minutes.
