Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez pledges to return to action as soon as possible after sustaining an injury.

The Argentine left the pitch in agony during extra time against Bologna in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia fixture.

This morning, the 26-year-old underwent medical tests and the results detected a muscle strain.

So for the first time since December 2021, the striker won’t take part in a Nerazzurri fixture.

Nevertheless, the 2022 World Cup winner has vowed to make a swift comeback while addressing his supporters on social media.

“After 89 appearances in a row, I have to stop, unfortunately,” posted Martinez on his Instagram account,

“I’m disappointed for not being able to help my teammates tomorrow. However, I will rest for a few days to recover and then return as soon possible.”

The Nerazzurri will host Lecce tomorrow evening at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. Simone Inzaghi will have to cope without his captain and top scorer this weekend.

But according to Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews, the striker will also skip the following encounter against Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on December 29th. This will be the final fixture for Inter in 2023.

On the other hand, the source believes that Martinez is aiming to make his comeback for the club’s maiden match in 2024.

The Nerazzurri will host Hellas Verona on January 6th, and the captain is hoping to recover in time to spearhead the team’s charge against the Gialloblu.

Martinez is leading the Serie A scoring charts with 15 goals from 16 appearances.
