Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu backtracked on his initial decision to start Josep Martinez in the place of Yann Sommer in the 2-0 win against Ajax.
According to reports from today’s edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, Chivu initially decided on the Spanish goalkeeper against the Dutch side.
However, in the aftermath of Inter’s 4-3 loss to Juventus, Chivu changed his mind.
The Romanian coach decided not to buckle under pressure from fans and media.
Instead, Chivu wanted the decision to be made on his basis.
Chivu Chose Not To Drop Sommer For Martinez In Inter Milan Win Over Ajax

Sommer received criticism following his performance in the Derby d’Italia loss to Juventus.
The Swiss international did not make a single save and conceded four goals.
Furthermore, two long-range efforts meant the goalkeeper attracted more criticism.
However, Chivu did not want to appear like a populist manager and Sommer impressed against Ajax.
Tomorrow, the Nerazzurri welcome Sassuolo to San Siro.
The same reports from Gazzetta claim that Chivu will finally give Martinez his chance against the Neroverdi.
