Former Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia blasted Yann Sommer after last night’s Derby della Madonnina loss.
Speaking to Pressing via FCInterNews, Ranocchia didn’t hold back, criticizing the veteran’s performance.
Yann Sommer came under heavy scrutiny after contributing to Inter’s latest big-game fiasco.
Indeed, the 36-year-old directly contributed to Juventus’ 4-3 Derby d’Italia victory in September.
However, Cristian Chivu has refused to bench the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper after his antics in Turin.
It’s fair to say that Sommer bounced back from that disappointing display, stringing together several impressive performances.
Yet, he faltered in another high-stakes clash last night.
Meanwhile, his Milan counterpart, Mike Maignan, was in top form on the opposite side of the pitch.
Indeed, Maignan’s superb stops kept Inter at bay, resulting in the Nerazzurri’s first scoring blank under Chivu.
Therefore, Ranocchia believes Inter would have won had they had the French shot-stopper between the sticks.
Andrea Ranocchia Blasts Yann Sommer After Inter 0-1 AC Milan Loss

“Probably, with the goalkeepers swapped, Inter would have won,” Ranocchia said. “But Inter lost because they didn’t take advantage of the chances they had.
“Two posts, a significant amount of play. Milan was very good, because they have important players and a good coach.”
Despite leapfrogging Inter in the Serie A table, Ranocchia doesn’t believe the Rossoneri can win the title this season.
“In my opinion, Milan isn’t ready for the Scudetto this year,” he added. “As a team, even with one less competition, for me, they’re not ready.
“Inter? They played the game, as always. And they create a lot of chances and attack with many players.
“They suffer in transitions because they attack; they need to try to lose fewer balls and work on defensive positioning precisely because they create so much.”
Inter will look to bounce back from Sunday’s fiasco when they take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Sommer needs to go now. We need a new Keeper asap.
Sommer is a top goal keeper. He is on a decline but such is the job of keepers that if you dont perform to the peak of your abilities then everyone question and blames you.
I saw several games of Maignon letting in stupid easy goals, not to mention his injury record not too long ago. Heck even Courtois, who in my opinion is the best GK on the planet, was mocked for letting goals between his legs.
Now, dont get me wrong, Sommer could have done better on the goal but credit to Pulisic for making that run. Sometimes, it really falls into your feet.
