Runaway Serie A leaders Inter Milan are reportedly preparing for a midfield overhaul, with Nicolo Barella set to remain the focal point.
According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the diminutive Italian star is the only Nerazzurri midfielder with a guaranteed spot in the team.
Despite having several ups and downs this season, Nicolo Barella has been one of the architects of Inter’s dominant Serie A.
Indeed, the 29-year-old has emerged as Inter’s driving force in the middle of the park.
Barella has netted three goals and added nine assists across 30 league appearances in his second-best season at San Siro.
Inter Milan to Revamp Midfield Options as Nicolo Barella Set for Prominent Role
Unlike Barella, several other long-serving stalwarts could sever ties with the Nerazzurri in the summer.
In addition to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, whose contract expires in June, Inter could part ways with Hakan Calhanoglu.
Heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray, the former AC Milan playmaker is facing an uncertain future in Serie A.
Meanwhile, fringe midfielder Davide Frattesi may finally quit after failing to secure regular first-team football under Cristian Chivu.
As for Andy Diouf, he could leave on a season-long loan following an unimpressive first season in Italy’s top flight.
Barella // Kone // Zielu // Sucic // Pellegrini // Ale Stan // Massolin .. for next season midfield would be great..
It will be extremely tough to replace Hakan,
We are a different side with him.
But IF zielinski can stay fit, and Sucic can show some more promise and Stankovic is the real deal, then it’s not all doom and gloom.
But IF barella has to cover both sides of the ball and we don’t have a proper CDM then his form will suffer like it has when Hakan has been injured
