Gianluca Mancini has signed a new contract with Roma through 30 June 2029, ending Inter’s pursuit of the Italy centre-back and dealing Beppe Marotta a concrete setback in his search for defensive reinforcements.
According to Calciomercato.it, Mancini’s agent Beppe Riso and the Roma hierarchy reached a definitive agreement on the new terms, which also include a club option to extend beyond 2029. The 1996-born defender will earn €3.5 million per season plus bonuses.

His previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2027, but the two parties have moved early to remove any lingering uncertainty. Inter had pushed for him right to the end – as SempreInter reported in April – alongside the contracts of other Roma players approaching their final years.
Inter Forced to Redirect Defensive Search
The renewal is a genuine blow for Marotta. The Nerazzurri have been hunting a centre-back since the summer departures of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij, and Mancini’s expiring deal had made him an appealing target. Inter pushed for him right to the end, according to the primary source.
Marotta must now accelerate on alternative targets. Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí has already been linked, and the club’s broader defensive rebuild – which has also extended to interest in the wider list of names now being considered – suggests Marotta is casting a wide net.

For Roma, the Mancini renewal follows recent contract extensions for Zeki Celik and Paulo Dybala, forming part of a deliberate strategy to secure the squad’s core ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.
