In the columns of the Corriere della Sera, Beppe Severgnini has lamented the premature departure of Esteban Cambiasso from Inter.
”He could have become the assistant of Roberto Mancini. For years, he was like the coach on the field. He understood the game in a matter of few moments. Cambiasso could have become someone like Carlo Ancelotti at Inter. Carlo and Esteban are of the same type – they have the brains and the muscles. Esteban, like Carlo, is able to concentrate in the game while simultaneously speaking to a microphone.”
Severgnini added, ”It is hard to admit but AC Milan are much more better in involving their own men in their team – Inzaghi, Tassotti, Maldini for example. Inter have in the past lost Lele Oriali, humiliated a gentlemen in Ivan Cordoba, forgot about Beppe Bergomi, deceived Walter Zenga. Now they have done the same with Esteban Cambiasso. Utilizing a home product is not a gift, it is an investment.”

yah, our biggest mistake..because no offence to rano, but we realllyy…we reaallly need a captain figure, not a newbie captain…
one leg Cambiasso is till better than Medel and MVila alltogether
I would have liked him to stay another year. I still hope that Inter remain in contact with him and can get him involved once he decides to retire in any capacity. You always get the feeling with Cambiasso that he knows what is going on around him and is an organiser, something Inter really need.
I said… Don’t ever sell this guy.. He is maybe old, but not his vision…
First of all, the guy didn’t retire, he’s still playing. Secondly he specifically said that he didn’t feel like becoming a coach once he hung up his boots so what is Beppe Severgnini really getting at?
True that, I also remember reading a statement by Cuchu where he said he’s not thinking about coaching.
But Severgnini has made a few valid points. I think we dealt with Cambiasso’s departure badly. Definitely could have used him as a player for 1 more season (Kuzmanovic has been a starter in lack of options, enough said I think), above all because of his authority. He’s a legend of the club, and the first logical choice in line for the armband after Zanetti (if Pupi wasn’t such a legend, Cambiasso would have been captain ages ago).
Then, you never know what his reuniting with Mancini would have brought, Mancio was the guy who brought Cuchu to Inter in the first place if memory serves me well.
I agree, he is so missed in that midfield, but i guess Thohir wanted a year zero.. And he’ll get one at the end of this season (sigh)
