No Inter debut today against Genoa for Xherdan Shaqiri. Inter’s new signing spoke to Sonntagsblick, unveiling his impressions on his early days in Milan, starting from the warm welcome of his new fans: “It was a crazy thing, I was really impressed by all these fans. I had never seen so many come to an airport, I even had to make sure that I did not fall. It was a very delicate situation for the security guards, but it was all very nice.”
Returning to the decision to give his yes immediately to the influential Mancini the Swiss explains: “I had many options and very attractive offers. I spoke on the phone with the coaches that explained their ideas to me. But I felt that Inter had done more for me. I felt inside that Inter would be the right choice because not only the club but many other people wanted me to come.”
A comment also about the friendship born at Inter with Podolski and possible rivalry on the pitch: “It is important to motivate me. It’s nice to know that the team has a certain weight, gives you confidence and to improve performance you also need good players that put you under a bit of pressure.”
Few days in Italy, but Shaqiri looks ahead and already aims for the title: “The long-term goal – I have a contract until 2019 – is to regain the title. I have read that when Lothar Matthäus arrived in 1988 Inter had not won in a long time, and in 1989 he succeeded. I take that as a good omen.”
