For weeks it has been reported that Jeremy Toulalan had accepted Inter’s offer for the coming summer. Though during the last few days reports have emerged that Toulalan has been offered a new contract by Monaco and this is confirmed by the intermediator Oscar Damiani who says the following to CalcioNews24:
“It’s true that Monaco has offered their captain a two-year contract. An offer that is very close to what Inter and other interested clubs offered. At the moment the player is valuing all his possiblities calmly and with a sense of responsibility. I think that we will have more news about the situation starting from next week.”

good, then he can stay in Monaco, we dont really need a 30+ slow midfielder.

Someone care to explain the difference between toulalan and medel?
toulalan is smarter than medel
medel is stronger than toulalan
And having them both on the team would do what exactly? Cuz I see nothing to gain from signing toulalan
Toulalan is free, provides leadership and stability in the midfield as well as a base to establish forward transitions from defense.
I don’t believe we can continue to carry a player with Medel’s deficiencies as a midfielder. I’d sell him and try to reclaim the 10mil we spent on him. However he could be a useful squad player. His ability to hassle the opposition in front of the defense could come in handy in certain games. However if we miss out on Europe, I see no point to this.
Medel is a one-dimensional defensive midfielder adept at forcing a turnover around our final third through hurrying the opposition (like a pitbull). His stamina, tenacity and aggression are his strengths, making him a useful stop-gap in front of the defense. However he is virtually useless on the ball as he lacks vision, creativity and has a narrow passing range. Combined with his inability to dribble around an opponent, he resorts to meaningless sideways/backwards passes, inflating his pass completion percentage. We are effectively a midfielder down in our forward transitions as he offers nothing offensively. The typical modern defender is more useful on the ball than he is.
Toulalan on the other hand is more of a traditional, well-rounded defensive midfielder with the ability to play the ball from deep. He lacks the physical characteristics of Medel, but has better technique, whether in the air or in a tackle. Combined with his superior intercept ability (due to his excellent awareness and positioning sense), he is a very adept defensive midfielder. And unlike the undersized Medel, he can actually play CB if necessary. But what truly separates the two is ability on the ball. Toulalan is composed and has a wide passing range. And whilst he usually takes the simplest option, he is capable of using his vision and wide-passing range to establish a meaningful transition from defense. And if he’s in possession around the attacking third, he’s not shy to shoot (well) from distance. So unlike Medel, he actually contributes going forward and is a well-rounded player with no real flaws (although he is getting on in age and was never fast or agile to begin with).
wtf have you been smoking dude, so you say toulalan is better than medel? first of all, after every match, see how much medel have covered the pitch, in km. and then see toulalans.
medel is a PITBULL, a warrior,
toulalan gasses out after 60th min, he just stands,
Toulalan doesn’t need to run as much as medel , his intelligence and technique allow him to do that plus his intercepting is one of the best ive seen in a whIle . medel plays like a headless chicken and opens up huge spaces behind him . Toulalan is definitely an upgrade

Well we need footballers not warriors. And yes, Toulalan is superior to Medel. He is far more rounded as a player.
An irrelevant statistic in isolation. Don’t mistake tenacity and pitch coverage for game sense. As “jackabood” mentioned, the best players needn’t cover so much ground as they instead utilise their awareness and positioning sense. As in most aspects of life, brain goes much further than brawn. Football is no exception.
Medel never stops running and tries his heart out, winning him adoration from fans who overlook the massive faults in his game. For a purely defensive midfielder, he all to often gets caught out of position, leaving too much space open behind him. And given he plays most games, we are always effectively a mid down offensively and up a defender. But despite this defensive set-up, we are still easily scored against. I’d prefer someone that is adequate defensively but offers something transitioning the ball from defense.
Toulalan would not be my first option, but given our circumstances, he’d be an astute acquisition.
It will be very good, if he decides to stay at Monaco!
