gary medel home

Gary Medel, the only survivor after Tagliavento’s yellow card frenzy in Verona, is getting ready to play the derby. A privilege that his midfield colleagues Guarin and Brozovic will not have. Today the Chilean midfielder was the centre of attention as he attended his first press conference at the Appiano since being officially presented as an Inter player. FcInterNews.it were there and can bring you the full interview with the Pitbull:

What kind of atmosphere do you expect in the derby?
“I hope there will be a good atmosphere, that the supporters can enjoy themselves and watch us get the three points”.

From your point of view, was it tough to hear people talking about this team having a lack of character?
“We are doing our best and we are looking to improve, maybe this hasn’t been one of Inter’s best seasons but we have to accept what the critics say”.

Did you expect to become such an important piece of Mancini’s team?
“I have always been at my managers’ disposal, first Mazzarri and then Mancini, and the situation is good. The results are not the best but there are still several games left to play and we are hoping to qualify for Europe”.

Have you asked your compatriot Ivan Zamorano for any tips or advice ahead of the Milan derby?
“I have played for Boca Juniors in the derby against River Plate, one of the biggest derbies in the world and therefore I have an idea of what the atmosphere will be like”.

FcIN – Of the three players who were one card from suspension, you were the only one who managed to avoid a booking against Verona. Should Brozovic and Guarin have paid more attention?
“We are always looking to do our best on the field, we knew that the derby was coming up but when you work hard you sometimes get booked, if you look at Guarin his yellow card was a little unlucky”.

Is it true that you struggle more while playing at home?  Maybe the derby can break the “curse” of the San Siro?
“It’s always tough to play in the Inter shirt, what we are hoping to do is to reward both the supporters and ourselves with a derby win after what has been a difficult season”.

What are your favourite and least favourite aspects of Italian football?
“I like it a lot here, you can never know for sure if you are going to win a game, everyone can win or lose against everyone”.

Is it frustrating to hear that Inter are looking for new players in your position?
“It has nothing to do with me, if the team gets stronger I will be happy, if someone arrives on my position I will fight to stay in the starting XI”.

What do you fear about Milan? Which player would you prefer not to see on the field on Sunday?
“Milan is a very strong team that has been through an irregular season just like ourselves. They deserve respect but when it comes to individual players I fear no one”.

When Mancini talked about a “revolution”, how did you players react?
“If the coach has said this, it means that he knows that we can do better. We reacted well and realized that we can still reach Europe if we work hard”.

Thohir will be at the derby, there is a lot of talk of him spending most of his time elsewhere; does it feel good having him at the San Siro?
“As you know the president doesn’t live here but he is in constant contact with us, he sends us messages, he is in contact with everyone of us. It’s important to know that he will be at the derby and he will fire us up like the other supporters”.

Mister Mancini is always attentive to details in the defensive line, do you think you can help the team out at the back as well?
“In the national team I play centrally in a four-man defensive line, I am always available to play where the technical staff wants me to play”.

It this a game to approach with an attacking attitude, looking to win and entertain the fans?
“I think that this is a very interesting game, because it’s the derby of Milan. I don’t think that we should throw ourselves head-first into attack, but instead play intelligently to bring out our own strengths, knowing the strengths of AC Milan”.
