Inter coach Roberto Mancini has held his first press conference ahead of the new 2015/16 season this afternoon and as you might expect, the hot topic was the club’s transfer business.
Here is what Mancini had to say as he met the assembled press:
“I think the club has worked well thus far and that we’re on the right track in terms of building the team. We’ve achieved the objectives we set for ourselves. The president has made a big effort to improve the squad and I thank him for that.”
Asked whether Geoffrey Kondogbia was the signing of the Summer?
“Geoffrey can become one of the best players in the world. Aside from the two or three superstars in his position, he’s already up there. We had to do a lot to sign him but we’ve got a really great player.”
Mancini is under no illusions that the Inter fans expect a title push this season:
“We’re Inter and our objective is always to aim for the top prize. We have to perform well. We’re behind Juventus, the holders, but we’ll do everything we can.”
“Our performances will show where we are, you can change half your squad but at the end of the day the results will speak for themselves. I’m pleased many players from last year have stayed. I hope we can cut the gap. We have a strong opponent ahead of us but our mentality will be important.”
Mancini also spoke about the appointment of his personal friend Sinisa Mihajlovic as coach of derby rivals AC Milan:
“That’s football, I think they’ve got themselves a great manager. I hope he does well, but not as well as us.”
Rumours linking Inter to Salah, Perisic and Jovetic:
“They’re great players but they belong to other teams. Salah is a good player but until his situation becomes clear it’s not right to speak about him. Finding players who can play on the wing and as a centre-forward would be good for us, as we’re quite short up front.”
Speculation on players who may be leaving Inter:
“Kovacic is an Inter player and we have a lot of faith in him. We have to move some players on, if we’re being asked about Santon and Shaqiri that’s because they’re good players. I think they’ll do even better than last season because they’ll be with their team-mates from the word go.”
Will any Primavera players travel to Brunico for the training camp?
“Puscas, for example, is a young lad and will be among the best there is in a few years. He needs to play.”
Mancini then looked ahead to the new season starting with who will wear the fabled captain’s armband:
“We’ll see what’s best for the team, we have more experienced players now who’ll give us a hand. If Andrea plays he’ll be a starter and the captain. We’ll see.”
“I’d have like to have been involved in Europe. Having said that, playing on a Thursday in the Europa League can cause some problems for those involved.”
Ricky Alvarez discussion:
“I’m not sure of the situation but I think he’s a Sunderland player. They stayed up in the Premier League and the clause dictates that the move must become permanent now.”
Mancini ended by talking about Inter’s ongoing season ticket campaign ‘Nothing Beats Being There’:
“It represents what it really means to be a fan. The fans are telling me they’re buying season tickets in their droves and it’ll be really important for us to have them with us. After that, it’s up to me and the team. We need to play well to keep them alongside us.”

those numbers of signings just freeking me out … too many players in one trasfer market … i hope they will adapt fast in seria A … its a hall new team … they need time and patience … at least we need 4 to 5 months to get results (hopefully)
Very surprised reading the news today (from many sources):
1. Medel to Gala for Melo
2. Shaqiri to leave (for Atm Madrid, Spurs or Stoke), as Duda will come and we should sell some profiles to raise funds.
3. If Shaqiri leaves for Spurs, then we would get Lamela
Couldn’t wait to see the end of Mercato!
Yeah I heard Shaqiri for Lamela too, it was quite surprising I should admit but we had better wait until the end of the mercato
So is it likely at this stage, we will only play with one up front being maurito? that means we are only going for wingers, and not a striker to pair with maurito…?
My question is if mancini decided for whatever reason to strip rannochia captaincy away who will he give it to, i would assume possible candidates are:
hanadanovic, icardi, Medel, hernanes, kovacic.
my assumptions are based on the fact that at least three players will be starters And all have been in inter at least one season (medel). In addition, Mancini said there are players there are more experienced players in the team right now. I didn’t mention guarin because i think he might be sold this summer.
From the five, I think Hernanes might be fit to be captain. For some reason i can’t see the rest holding captaincy as of now.
But I think he will not in the start up
I think if he is going to strip if from Rano’s hand he will give it ro Hernanes or Medel and the third option Handa

A couple of thoughts:
– Mancini seems to think 4-2-3-1 is not as suitable for Serie A. Maybe from watching some Napoli games.
– I’m ok with Montoya but I think we should have gotten a strong left back instead such as Filipe Luiz and keep Santon/D’Ambrosio as right back options. Maybe Santon is more comfortable on the left.

shaqiri is the player that mancini requested in the januari transfer.. he is in mancini plan.. unless his form is not getting better or we got better player than him, he will be a starter..

he is pretty good as a holding midfielder, to me i prefer him over allan and medel because of mainly height and passing rang. he started 20 games for atletico and 8 in the champions league… good enough right ? 😛

do you expect to get results with 8 new players in the squad … it happens only in fifa ultimate team not in the real life … i hope not to change the hall team in one year … it would very hard to find chemistry before 6 month …. 3 or 4 new players in starting lineup would more than enough

when theres a question about captaincy even when the current captain still in the squad, that means something wrong with the captain. either Ranocchia have to be a man or take that off and give it to someone who deserve (in normal condition, I prefer the longest career in the team, but right now, anyone can have it as long he deserve)

“If Andrea plays he’ll be a starter and the captain. We’ll see.” I think that is a very strong hint that even with Murillo and Miranda, he will be starting and be the captain. I hope its not true though.

(same way barca did with xavi, iniesta is the captain but when xavi is subbed in he hands it to xavi. and he is the one that makes media appearances but he hardly plays). it’s not physics you know. it happens alot in football. it’s a respectful way to do it. it’s hard strip someone from captaincy. as “khan” said his facebook page tells the whole story…..
