With Stefano Pioli’s arrival now confirmed, attention has now switched towards how Inter will look to strengthen their new coach’s squad in January.
Calciomercato have reported that the defensive department is the priority, with new full backs seen as an absolute necessity.
Matteo Darmian is a top target and has agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri. However, due to Antonio Valencia’s injury, the ex-Torino man is playing more and Manchester Utd seem less inclined to offload him.
Should a deal for Darmian fail to materialise, alternatives are being readied in the shape of Benfica’s Nélson Semedo and Barcelona’s Aleix Vidal.
In terms of central defenders, Pioli would ideally like to sign Francesco Acerbi although it is unlikely Sassuolo will sell him mid-season. Atalanta’s Mattia Caldara is one possible alternative.
Victor Lindelöf also remains a target, and is the favoured option of Kia Joorabchian, however he is very expensive and it remains to be seen whether Suning will approve the expenditure.

We won’t get Darmian, he is practically starting every game now for ManU. So we can end that dream.
Try Candreva at RB for a game or 2 and see how it goes. He can’t be worse than the fullbacks starting.
i’m not trying to be negative..
but going from Mazzari to Pioli..
what i hope is not the top 3 for us, i just hope we have patience to let him working until his contract expired in 2018..i really do..
Finally an astute coach..
Fullbacks:
Ricardo Rodriguez
Matteo Darmian
Sime Vrsaljko
CB:
Niklas Sule
Victor Lindelöf
Forget about other names. If we can get two/three of them then our defense problems will be solved and Nagabrosio can start counting their last days.
Another mediocre Serie A players. Smh
pioli, can we use your son in defence ?!?!
When you consider the injury at the tail-end of Zanetti’s career, this team really hasn’t had a proper fullback on the roster for years. Plenty of fans insisted that procuring at least one top-quality fullback was already an “absolute necessity” this past summer.
Yet, Inter’s management didn’t seem to agree. Roma got Bruno Peres for a song, and there were virtually no rumors of us being in the hunt for a top talent at the fullback spot. All we did was grab Ansaldi out of the bargain-bin, shrugged, and said “good enough.”
The funny thing (by “funny” I mean “horrible”) is the management seemed to wise up to the need for a fullback in like the last week before the transfer window closed. All of a sudden we were rumored to be interested in every fullback under the sun, most of all Criscito/Darmian, but it was too late and nothing materialized. I blame the lack of quality at the fullback position at least as much for our current predicament as any other factor. You’ll never convince me that either one of those guys wouldn’t have helped to turn a few defeats into draws and a few draws into wins.
tl;dr: PONY UP FOR SOME REAL FULLBACKS ALREADY!!!!!
just don’t bring mediocre Italian players please, only bring top ones
