Pioli to RAI: “We needed a win like this.”

Stefano Pioli talked to RAI after tonight’s game:

“We had to fight for this win, we needed this kind of situation because we had to be determined  from the beginning to the end. Genoa was better in the beginning, but at the end we got the three points we needed. We know that this situation we’re in is a delicate one and we know that we have to give more in order to obtain the results we want.”

Is there a point from where you can restart? “Yes, we have the will to suffer in order to get the results we want, something that was missing in the beginning. And also we have the will to get this club out of this situation, a situation a club like Inter shouldn’t be in. There are a lot of points between us and the top teams, but with the spirit we showed tonight we can do good things.

About the formation: ” I wanted to attack their defence, with three attackers I wanted to put them into difficulties. Why Nagatomo instead of Perisic? Because I thougt we would be to unbalanced with Ivan. I wanted to bring an offensive play but I also have to find the best balance. The main thing is that I wanted to see the players sacrifice themselves, and tonight I did. This is a path to continue on. In order to get the results, everybody has to run, fight, stay positive and believe that we can win. Tonight I saw a team aware of our difficulties and the desire to prove to everyone that we are not a team for the 10th place.
