Roberto Gagliardini is probably hours from signing with Inter and in today’s Corriere dello Sport we find an interview with Edy Reja, the man who coached Atalanta when Gagliardini made his Serie A debut.
How would you, who has coached and trained him, describe Gagliardini? “Physically very good with good technique and he moves really well on the pitch.”
In what role does he perform at his best? “I think he’s a bit more of an outside midfielder than a defensive midfielder. He is at his best when you have a three-man midfield where he can put himself in position. But as you have seen this year he has also performed well as more of a defensive midfielder together with Kessié.”
Does he remind you of any player from the past? “Dino Baggio when he played for Parma. He also knew how to position himself and when playing defense also let the opponents know he was on the pitch.”
Could he become an anchor for the national team? “I hope so. Such a good outside midfielder in a three-man midfield is hard to find. If he just improves a bit he could become a regular in the national team.”
Is this a good deal for Inter? “I don’t want to talk about the mercato because I know too little but I know that Gagliardini is an interesting guy and a great prospect.”
