Simone Inzaghi wants Inter Milan to start an “escape” in the Serie A title race by beating Juventus after the international break.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
At the moment, Inter have only the slenderest of advantages at the top of the Serie A table.
Two points separate the Nerazzurri from their Derby d’Italia rivals the Bianconeri.
Therefore, the head-to-head clash with Juventus after the break will have the highest of stakes.
For Juventus, it is a chance to overtake Inter at the top. And even a draw would hardly be a bad result for Max Allegri’s men, who would keep within touching distance.
But Inzaghi isn’t just keen to avoid defeat – obviously – against the Bianconeri.
According to the Gazzetta, the Inter coach has more ambitious designs for the Derby d’Italia.
Simone Inzaghi Wants Inter “Escape” Vs Juventus
A draw in the Derby d’Italia would mean that Inter are still only one result ahead of Juventus.
Therefore, the situation would remain as it is.
Inter would know that all it would take to fall behind would be one slip-up on one weekend.
And for that reason, Inzaghi wants to twist the knife. The coach wants three points against the Bianconeri.
This would extend Inter’s advantage at the top to five points.
That is of course not a “safe” gap for Inter, or an insurmountable one for Juventus.
But it would be something for the Nerazzurri to really build upon.
And the momentum could carry them through in the subsequent weeks.
Inter also face crisis team Napoli right after they go head-to-head with Juventus.
And given that Inter have already secured their place in the Champions League round of sixteen, there is little doubt about their focus being squarely on their commitments in the league.
Inter already have a decent buffer on defending champions Napoli and on AC Milan.
And wins right after the break would confirm it. Inter would look like a team taking flight up the table, with everyone else struggling to keep pace.
