Matteo Darmian is reportedly at risk of skipping Wednesday’s Champions League showdown between Ajax and Inter Milan.
According to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the 35-year-old missed today’s training due to back pain.
Denzel Dumfries has been the first-choice wingback since the start of last season.
However, Darmian’s contribution off the bench has been significant.
Furthermore, the veteran’s versatility is invaluable, considering he can cover multiple positions at the back.
Therefore, his potential absence could be an issue on Wednesday.
Matteo Darmian at Risk of Missing Ajax vs Inter Milan Game
Darmian was the only notable absentee at Appiano Gentile during today’s training session.
Yet, he could still board a plane to Amsterdam.
It’s up to Inter’s medical staff to decide whether to let him take part in Wednesday’s fixture at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Even if allowed to play, Darmian would probably start on the bench, with Dumfries expected to retain his place.
Meanwhile, Cristian Chivu has the remainder of his squad fit and ready.
That includes Marcus Thuram, who finished the game against Juventus with cramps.
