There was no reunion in Riyadh between Inter and their former head coach Simone Inzaghi, despite expectations that the two parties might cross paths during the Supercoppa Italiana.
Inter were in Saudi Arabia for the semi-final against Bologna, a match they ultimately lost on penalties.
Meanwhile Inzaghi has been based in the country since his summer move to Al-Hilal from Inter.
In recent weeks, the former Nerazzurri coach had hinted that he could take the opportunity to greet his old players during the tournament.
That meeting, however, never materialised.
No Inzaghi Reunion For Inter At Supercoppa In Saudi Arabia
According to Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, Inzaghi did not appear in any of Inter’s designated areas throughout the trip.
“Neither on Thursday, when Inter arrived in Saudi Arabia, nor on Friday, the day of the match against Bologna, did Inzaghi show up in Inter’s zones,” the paper reports.
Indeed referring to the team hotel, training centre and the Al-Awwal Stadium.
The reasons remain unclear.
Tuttosport suggests it may have been a matter of discretion, avoiding distractions for the squad on the eve of an important match.
Alternatively, the newspaper hints that relations may no longer be entirely smooth following Inzaghi’s departure after the Champions League final.
Although, no confirmation is offered.
What is certain is that Inter’s Saudi trip passed without any direct contact with their former coach, closing the door, at least for now, on a symbolic reunion during the Supercoppa.
