Today against Chievo Verona, Inter has the chance to go to the top of the standings being the only team with 39 points. Former Inter icon Marco Materazzi explains in today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport what lies behind this year’s success: “I would say that the team never letting their guard down, starting in the beginning of August, is one of the factors. Having Luciano Spalletti as a coach guarantees something that we have not had in a number of years. Everybody knew that as soon as he signed with Inter and that has made the difference this year, a long term work.

And being at the top of the standings complicates things right?

“It is better to take things slowly, one step at a time. First Chievo then we can start thinking about the Juventus game.”

Is this the deciding game in judging this year’s Inter?

“Absolutely, because if you remain at the top after playing the reigning champions this means that you are a team to be afraid of.”
