After talking to the microphones of RAI Sport, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti headed to the press conference concluding the game against Pordenone and had the following to say about tonight’s game:
Did a lot of players experince fatigue today? Karamoh has his highs an lows, an indication of something? “Considering how everything went down, I think that my choices maybe were not the best ones. I did not help my players, I expected something different, I expected more. Eder and Karamoh are offensive players, but with Cancelo I hoped to get a more stable game from a tactic point of view. We did not manage to take control of the game, we got confused as the pace of play picked up and was a bit disorganised. Karamoh started on the left because his right foot is the strongest one, since he is a player that challenges the defender if he can go in the middle with his right foot he can go for goal. Then I changed because it was not that easy, he did some good things and of course had some trouble covering the entire left side. These kind of explosive players need to recover, you can not ask them to rush back all the time. During extra time everything looked better, Pordenone were great, just like I expected them to be. Then we have the psychological factor, as each minute passed, their moral and personality got higher and higher. And for us it was the opposite. Then during the shoot-out we can all thank Daniele Padelli who made two exceptional saves”.
Were you mat at the team? “I try to behave correctly, meaning I always try to support them. In games like this the psychological factor always come in play, therefore I told them to remain calm because the difference between them and us remains until the last seconds of the game if you can keep your cool. After the final whistle I complimented the players. After our third and final substitution we were outnumbered since a lot of players were suffering from fatigue”.
Most of the players that started do not have a lot of playing time, what kind of answers did you get? “I got the right answers from the choices I made. But also tonight you could see the quality of our players. Cancelo has pace and is good with both his feet. Dalbert got a minor injury but remained on the pitch, remember that although we did not play well today we had 4-5 really good opportunities”.

Maybe we should return cancelo and try to go for sime vrsjalko who is going out of atl madrid..but sime had been injury prone
Well one thing we learned from this match:
Some players are not starters for a reason
Don’t see anything really in Cancelo except pace.. okay he´s still young (23) but speed ins´t enough to really be a great winger…
Dalbert didn’t do much either, but he too is young (24)and I´m sure he will be great next season when he has learned what Italian is about.
But players that really disappointed me were: Cancelo, Gagliardini, Vecino, Perisic and Icardi when they entered – non of our players really wanted to play the game it seemed! But we won and are facing Milan/Verona in the quarterfinals.
tbf for cancelo he could have 2 assist if karamoh and perisic can finish his pass.. actually he manage to release karamoh at least twice in this game, and once for perisic. the most disappointing players for me is brozo, eder and dalbert.
100 % for sure for ur objective opinion… 🙂
I don´t have much belief in Cancelo, although he isn´t a horrible player, just kind of average fast winger who is bad at defending – not a 35 million guy for sure.
Dalbert seemed like he could turn out good after Chievo and Juve games, but yesterday was bad. He seems to lack footballing IQ. I haven´t lost my hope on him, because I believe he can defend and he does have that pace, but we´ll see. He isn´t comfortable with the tactics and I think he is kind of stiff because of that. Right now he looks like a bad buy, but he might still turn out good even though chances seem quite high that he´ll be a bust.
Thankfully we didn´t lose this one and this will serve a good lesson for the players not underestimate anyone. Anyhow, how fucking exciting was that penalty-shoot? I haven´t been that nervous all season. After Gaglia missed I was cursing him to go to hell from this club, haha. Luckily Yoga had nerves of steel to save us even though most credit obviously goes to Padelli. Would have been so bad for the morale to lose that one.
If you start a game with a wrong foot this can happen. Many of the players probably wanted to conserve their energy for weekend and then ended up getting much more tired than they should have.
as I saw the game, J Cancelo is good defensively but had a lot of wrong passes offensively
Actually in this game he wasn´t that bad, but overall I see him as a kind of weak player who puts the team in danger when defending. Not fullback material and quite average as winger. Hopefully he proves me wrong big time, because in future we need good performances from the players who aren´t playing much right now.
I have lost my faith to Dalbert. We have seen him play a couple of time but never show a glimpse of excellence. Maybe he can do his job decently in defence, but he’s nothing more than that. Maybe he can attack freely in ligue 1, but in serie a he’s very limited.
He has mental problem. Football IQ. He’s too afraid to make mistakes.
I believe that Spalletti know who to choose in big matches, therefore the fact that both Dalbert and Cancelo couldn’t challenge D’ambrosio and Nagatomo and Santon was justifiable to the preformance we witnessed, but I would not consider Cancelo as a bad deal as he is a hot demanded asset in the market adding the fact he might be something in future, plus he is better than Kondogbia to Inter anyway.
