Milano-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport report that Inter are ready to finalize the contract negotiations with captain Mauro Icardi after a period of stalemate.

According to the Gazzetta “Finally there has been contact between Inter and Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi. During the last couple of days Icardi’s agent has been in contact with Inter and a rough agenda has been set for a renewal and an adjustment of the contract without any problems. Probably everything will go down before mid-July when the buy-out clause for foreign clubs expires. Inter management has made it clear to Wanda Nara that they need to stay calm when it comes to FFP restrictions and that the club is on the right way in order to raise the €45 million that is needed to balance the books. With that a quick Icardi transfer is avoided.”

Suning should be able to present a new contract to Icardi that expires at the end of June 2023 which includes a salary bump up to €6.3 million net excluding some minor bonuses. According to the Gazzetta “this means that Icardi will be able to make around €7.5-8 million net per year instead of the €5 million plus bonuses he earns now. Wanda’s first request was around €9 million which means that both parties is likely to reach an agreement. When it comes to the buy-out clause, Inter has the intention of raising it to €150 million euros, if they do not decide to remove it.”
