The Italian national team got off to a decent, but not overwhelming, start in the new UEFA national team competition Nations League. And after the 1-1 draw at home against Poland who played in this year’s World Cup in Russia without qualifying to the final 16 Inter player Roberto Gagliardini’s performance was graded, together with the rest of the players, by the biggest Italian sports newspapers and there are not many positive words neither for Gagliardini nor his teammates:

La Gazzetta dello Sport 5.5:

“The spectacular mezzala from the Atalanta days of Gasperrini is gone, in exchange for a winger without any particular personality that is only saved by his physical play. But if that is not followed by a thought.”

Corriere dello Sport 4.5:

“He was found outside of position, like a buoy floating in the blue sea.”

Tuttosport 5.5:

“Recover balls but lost a lot as well and above all he is too slow in restarting the action. Even his step is without fluidity.”

Corriere della Sera 5:

“Lacks a determined step and the lost balls weighs heavy on his grade.”
