Inter are working on a new contract for central defender Stefan de Vrij, according to a Spanish media report.

TodoFichajes.com report that despite the Dutch national team representative being under contract for another two years already, Inter wish to extend his contract until at least 2026 and the new contract will come with a generous salary increase.

De Vrij joined the club on a free transfer in 2018 after his contract expired with Lazio at the end of the previous season and the report goes on to add that negotiations between the two parties over an extension are on the right track.

In fact, Inter hope to be able to have an agreement reached by the end of this month.

De Vrij has been virtually ever present for Inter this season, having appeared in all barring two of the Nerazzurri’s matches.

In 30 appearances across all competitions, the 29-year-old has scored a single goal which came in a 2-1 defeat at Sampdoria last month.

De Vrij played the full 90 minutes on Sunday as Inter went top of Serie A with a 3-1 win over Lazio, with Tuttosport and Corriere dello Sport both giving him a rating of 7/10 for his display.
