Antonio Conte is getting his revenge on all his critics with Inter’s electric form in Serie A, according to the Nerazzurri’s former defender Riccardo Ferri.

Inter had a slow start to the season in which their poor defensive record cost them precious points, but Conte has since addressed their issues and led them top of the table.

Sunday’s dominant victory over AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina helped Conte’s side open up a four-point lead over their city rivals, with 15 games left to play.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset on their weekly football show ‘Pressing’, Ferri said: “Conte is having his revenge after all the criticism he received.

“He knows that the road to the Scudetto is still long, but up until now the Nerazzurri have had a great league season.

“Their hard work is paying off.

“Inter suffered a bit before finding the balance they have now.

“By playing with a deeper defensive line, they do better and all the players score.

Christian Eriksen and Ivan Perisic are two important players and Conte now has a strong team.”

Ferri, who spent 13 years with Inter between 1981 and 1994, also had words of praise for Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, who are on course to outscore all of the club’s historic title-winning strike partnerships.

“I find it incredible how much Lautaro and Lukaku sacrifice themselves for the team,” Ferri admitted.

“They nurture a great sense of belonging with Conte which you can spot more now than you could before.”

Inter will return to league action on Sunday when Conte’s side welcome in-form Genoa to San Siro.

They will then play struggling Parma in a midweek round before hosting another in-form team in Atalanta on March 8.
