Inter rejected an offer from Roma to take Christian Eriksen on loan in January, according to an Italian media report today.

CalcioMercato.com have revealed that the Giallorossi came in for the Danish international during the last week of the transfer window, offering a swap deal that would have seen Eriksen and Edin Dzeko exchanged.

Inter immediately refused the swap offer, due to tactical reasons rather than because of the differences in the players’ salaries.

Discussions between the two clubs moved on to a possible swap involving Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez, but no move ended up materialising in the end.

Eriksen was also linked with a move to Atalanta at one point in January, but the report insisted Roma were the only club in Serie A to have registered an interest in the 29-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City also tried until the last minute to sign Eriksen, but neither could get a deal done.

Eriksen has made 20 appearances under Antonio Conte this season, scoring once, and is set to keep his place in Inter’s starting XI for Sunday’s league match at home to Genoa.
