Milan Skriniar’s potential departure from Inter last summer is now but a distant memory, as explained by a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition recalled how the defender was close to moving to the Premier League at the end of last season, with Tottenham Hotspur strongly interested in a deal.

Skriniar struggled to adapt initially to Antonio Conte’s three-man defence, with Diego Godin relegating him to the bench in the final third of the 2019-20 season.

But after a slow start to this campaign, which included a month-long absence after testing positive for COVID-19, Skriniar is back to his best and has become a crucial part of Inter’s bid to win the Serie A title.

Skriniar was handed a starting shirt back and he has not looked back since with him, Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni forming a formidable trio at the back.

He was highlighted by the report as one of Inter’s best performers in last weekend’s derby win over AC Milan, where Conte’s side extended their impressive run to one goal conceded in six league games.

The Rome-based publication concluded by saying that a move to England could wait, with Skriniar now dreaming of winning the Scudetto with Inter.

Inter’s legendary former defender Ivan Cordoba has praised Skriniar for getting his career with the Nerazzurri back on track, after the club had reportedly lined up Schalke defender Ozan Kabak – now at Liverpool – to replace him last summer.
