Inter midfielder Matias Vecino has assured supporters he is feeling fine despite testing positive for COVID-19.
Vecino and Stefan de Vrij were confirmed as the third and fourth Nerazzurri players to contract the virus today, after Danilo D’Ambrosio and Samir Handanovic had tested positive earlier this week.
As a result of the four cases, Milan’s local health authority has ordered a four-day suspension of footballing activities at Inter, meaning Saturday’s Serie A match at home to Sassuolo has been postponed.
Vecino, who made his first senior appearance of the season at Torino on Sunday, posted an Instagram story this evening in which he said: “Thanks for the messages.
“I’m fine and I hope to be back on the pitch as soon as possible.
“Forza Inter!”
A report from Gazzetta dello Sport says Inter’s game with Sassuolo is likely to be rescheduled for Wednesday 7 April.
The Nerazzurri are now Serie A’s second-worst affected team in terms of COVID-19 cases among players, as highlighted by a leading Italian journalist.
As far as the club’s directors are concerned, chief executive Beppe Marotta is the only person still positive after Piero Ausilio joined Alessandro Antonello, Dario Baccin and Angelo Capellini in returning a negative test yesterday.
Tuttosport’s print edition assured supporters this morning that Marotta was in a ‘more than good’ condition, though.
