Inter are behind Juventus in the battle to sign Chelsea full-back Emerson Palmieri, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Emerson has struggled for game time all season in England and continues to be on the fringes under the Blues’ new head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said the former Roma and Palermo left-back wants to return to Serie A and could be helped by the fact his contract with Chelsea expires next summer.

Chelsea’s chief director Marina Granovskaia blocked all moves for Emerson in the last two transfer windows, but this time things could be different for the Italian-Brazilian.

In any case, the report claimed Juventus were ahead of Inter for the 26-year-old as things stand, despite stories last week claiming Antonio Conte wanted Emerson to reinforce his left wing-back options.

Emerson has made just 13 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, scoring his only goal of the campaign against Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Champions League last 16 second leg last Wednesday.
