Danilo D’Ambrosio would be more than happy to rejoin Luciano Spalletti at Napoli, his father revealed today.
Inter have reportedly exercised an option in the defender’s contract (which expires next month) to extend his deal by another season.
However, Spalletti is interested in bringing D’Ambrosio – and Matias Vecino – to Napoli, having enjoyed working with the pair during his two years with the Nerazzurri.
“It make sense that Napoli would be interested, he’d obviously go there willingly,” D’Ambrosio’s father Vincenzo told Pianetanapoli.it today.
“Danilo was very happy working with the coach (Spalletti) at Inter, there’s great respect between the pair.
“He was already close to joining Napoli when Walter Mazzarri was in charge and then nothing happened; let’s hope this is the right moment.”
D’Ambrosio had great success playing under Spalletti at Inter, who returned to the UEFA Champions League after a six-year absence in 2018.
The 32-year-old played a pivotal role in securing a top-four finish in Serie A the following season, preserving a 2-1 lead against Empoli on the final day of the campaign with a dramatic last-minute clearance which bounced off the crossbar.
D’Ambrosio made 24 appearances in all competitions for Inter this season, scoring three goals under Antonio Conte during their charge to the Serie A title.
