Atletico Madrid are serious about signing Lautaro Martinez, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said the La Liga champions sent representatives to Milan yesterday to begin talks with the Nerazzurri.

Inter would only sell Lautaro if they received an offer worth €90 million, a very difficult fee to pay in a market impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beppe Marotta, Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin reassured Simone Inzaghi yesterday that El Toro could only leave for a huge sum of money and Inter’s squad would remain competitive.

Inter have identified two possible replacements for Lautaro in case the 23-year-old does leave, the Turin-based paper added.

Luis Muriel at Atalanta is top of the list made by Ausilio and Baccin, having scored 22 goals in Serie A for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side last season.

PSV Eindhoven forward Donyell Malen is the other option, although he would be a different profile to Muriel because the 22-year-old is younger and a similar profile to what Lautaro was back in 2018.
