Inter defender Stefan de Vrij has made perfectly clear that he is happy at Inter, amid ongoing talks to extend his contract past the end of the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, the 31-year-old answered questions about his future, and also noted that this evening’s match against Fiorentina will not be an easy one.

De Vrij’s current deal with Inter is set to run out at the end of June.

The former Lazio and Feyenoord defender has been the subject of interest from La Liga side Villarreal as well as other teams in Spain and in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Dutchman is not far away from signing a new deal, having all but agreed terms on a two-year contract at the same wages that he currently earns.

Nothing has been made official yet, although the Nerazzurri seem happy to try and get pen on paper to secure the 31-year-old’s future past the end of the current season.

Whilst de Vrij has not always been a regular in Inter’s starting eleven this season, he has shown his worth in the Champions League at times, and is certainly an experienced and reliable servant.

From the player’s perspective, de Vrij has updated that he feels happy at Inter.

This does not mean that the defender will end up signing a new deal, but certainly suggests that the conditions could be there for one.

Of the birth of his son Nolan, the Dutchman said that “I’m very happy, and little Nolan will grow up.”

“I’m very happy to have become a father, but at the same time I’m focused on this match,” he added.

“Fiorentina are a strong team and play good football, but at the same time we have what it takes to bring three points home, here in Milan.”
